THE PARLIAMENT
THE PARLIAMENT
The Parliament, The Benjamin Royal Sonesta Hotel
About this project:
Address: 125 E 50th St, New York, NY 10022
Project Description:
Located within The Benjamin Royal Sonesta Hotel on Lexington Avenue in New York City, The Parliament offers a refined yet approachable all-day dining experience, featuring modern American cuisine developed by Executive Chef Rakmin Lee, notably from Morimoto NYC, Four Seasons New York and San Francisco.
Designed by //3877, the restaurant boasts dark woods, stone, brass accents, and nods to vintage art, creating a sophisticated and timeless atmosphere drawn by the architect Emery Roth and The Benjamin’s historic landmark building. The keystones above the arches contain corbels topped by sculptures of owls. Inspired by the term for a group of owls, The Parliament reflects a sense of wisdom, community, and conversation. With seventy seats, the restaurant will feature a distinct bar for cocktails and dining as well as “the nest,” perfect for intimate and semi-private events.
Whether enjoying a power breakfast, business lunch, or afterwork cocktails, The Parliament provides the perfect backdrop for Chef Lee’s elevated small plates featuring classic New York favorites.
Throughout Sorn Thai, cozy banquette seating and loose dining tables are outfitted in different green and neutral hues, including multiple textures, sheens, and patterns. Although varied and layered, the space maintains a cohesive and warm feeling. A large window provides a glimpse into the kitchen, an engaging element for guests to discover and observe throughout their meal.
Sorn Thai’s lived-in, approachable design showcases a warm, nostalgic feel while maintaining an airy, elevated atmosphere. Similar to the levels of flavor married together in Sorn Thai’s cherished dishes, the design is unified using a repetition of a variety of textured elements and neutral colors in varying shades. Unified with color and layered with moments of soft lighting, the restaurant strikes a harmonious transition between traditional textures and contemporary elements, an ode to its backstory and curated cuisine.
