ANDY'S PIZZA
ANDY'S PIZZA
Andy’s Pizza, Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Gaithersburg, Union Station, Montgomery Mall, Reston
Project Description:
Anchored by an uncompromising commitment to craft, Andy’s Pizza brings a pizza-making approach to the DMV area that’s as precise as it is personal. Seeking a design partner who could translate that philosophy from the kitchen into the built environment, founder Andy Brown engaged //3877 to develop a cohesive interior direction that serves each new location while honoring the brand's evolving identity.
The design approach embodies the same values that drive the kitchen: nothing is faked, nothing is rushed, and quality materials are allowed to do what quality materials do—wear beautifully over time. The color palette is warm, tactile, and artisanal, featuring stained real wood, Carrara marble countertops, handcrafted-look tile, and unlacquered brass fixtures that will patina with age. Real leather upholstery on the booths makes an intentional statement in a high-volume pizza environment, reflecting Andy’s dedication to consistent quality and experience.
Across all locations, a set of signature interior elements establishes continuity while providing the flexibility for individual touches that localize each restaurant. The gantry, a bespoke millwork system integrating pizza box storage, decorative lighting, and menu display above the order counter, is a standardized architectural and operational centerpiece of each space. A curated Honor Wall, displaying photographs and ephemera from the pizza establishments Andy most admires, adds a personal touch to each location. The walls are outfitted in a custom specialty wallcovering that was developed from a series of watercolor paintings Andy commissioned of his own pizzas, cleverly reworked as a playful riff on Michelangelo's Creation of Adam.
Much like his commitment to quality ingredients, Andy has a soft spot for decorative lighting with character. Unique to each location is a curated collection of light fixtures, chosen with intention for their materiality, shape, style, and details, and selected in response to the specific needs of each space. The lighting approach is deliberately distinct from one location to the next, drawing cues from the aesthetic and atmosphere of the surrounding neighborhood. This emphasis on locality and individuality reflects Andy’s broader commitment to investing in people, businesses, and communities with the same preference for quality and character over convention. Together, these fixtures add another layer of personality to each restaurant, reinforcing the idea that while every Andy’s Pizza shares a common design language, no two locations should feel exactly alike.
The ongoing partnership spans architectural and interior design services: decorative fixture schedule curation, custom design element production, artist and vendor coordination, and new location rollout from concept through construction documentation. Andy's Pizza is designed to age and evolve, with each location conceived as a living space that accumulates character and local charm.
