Project Description:

Located in the center of Salt Lake City, Utah, the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown City Creek’s renovation seamlessly invites the serene beauty of the city’s surrounding landscape into the built environment. Architecture and design firm //3877 reimagined the property's public spaces, transforming a dated interior into a contemporary haven for business travelers and guests of the adjacent conference center.

The hotel’s updated lobby envelops guests in tranquility and a deeply spirited atmosphere. Nature’s design influence is subtle but discernible, much like the sweeping terrain of Salt Lake. The color palette—captured within the material and fabric selections—boasts terracotta, green, and plum tones with wooden accents, creating a soothing environment that speaks to the hotel's unique location. Thoughtful design elements, such as the intricate carpet, include fun patterns and materials that provide visual interest while maintaining a calm, neutral base. 

Guests enter the lobby through an automatic entrance, which replaced the original revolving door for a more accessible entry point. In the reception area, a striking textured stone front desk with a black marble accent is enhanced by an illuminated mountainscape backdrop, an artistic nod to the surrounding mountains. The new lobby and pre-function space strategically caters to business travelers with communal working spaces, ample power outlets, and comfortable seating.

The Destination Lounge represents another key transformation, adding additional seating that blends into the existing bar and neighboring Starbucks spaces. The area preserves elements of the existing space while layering in new materials—including sweeping light pendants and an antique glass drink rail—to create a fresh, contemporary feel. The entire lounge is outfitted with custom furnishings that continue the organic design scheme. Curated by SoHo Art Consulting, featured artwork furthers the charming character and local flavor within the space.

Adjacent to the lobby, the renovated restaurant, Salt Stone, emerges as a bright and inviting dining destination. Where the previous space was dark and moody, the new design offers a warm, welcoming environment that allows guests to linger and enjoy. The design team carefully balanced existing elements, such as the light fixtures, with new design features for a revitalized look.

Critical to the property’s business travelers, several meeting and event spaces received an impressive, modern upgrade. A newly opened boardroom features a communal table, frosted pocket doors, and natural-wood millwork with layered decor, offering flexible working and meeting opportunities with a nod to the surrounding landscape. The ballroom presents an expansive, versatile space for large-scale events, maintaining the hotel's upscale accommodations for corporate guests and conference attendees. Though the rooms are divided for privacy, the design team sought to maintain a cohesive experience as guests move between each space.
