Project Description:
Leading the architecture and design of this townhouse-turned-dispensary is local firm //3877. The new 1,800-square-foot facility, designed by firm co-founders David Shove-Brown and David Tracz, is set in a townhouse on North Capitol Street. On a city-wide level, it is the first medicinal marijuana dispensary within Washington, bringing a physical presence to a longstanding debate. On a larger scale, its placement [literally] views the capitol and federal regulations outlawing such establishments. The hope is that the design will portray the dispensary not as a preconceived “drug den,” but a carefully thought out medical facility for ill, suffering patients that balances bank-like security with the comfort of traditional retail environments.
